Homeless veterans represent a vulnerable population within the broader issue of homelessness in the United States. Many individuals who served in the military experience challenges after returning to civilian life, including difficulties with employment, mental health conditions such as PTSD, substance use disorders, and limited access to affordable housing. These factors can contribute to housing instability or long-term homelessness. Support programs from government agencies and nonprofit organizations aim to provide shelter, healthcare, job training, and transitional housing to help veterans regain stability. Despite progress in reducing veteran homelessness over the past decades, thousands still lack secure housing on any given night. Outreach efforts often focus on connecting veterans with benefits they have earned through service, as well as community-based support systems. Addressing veteran homelessness requires coordinated action across federal, state, and local levels, along with continued investment in prevention and rehabilitation services and long term housing solutions nationwide for stability.
